We are honored that our group was invited by Dr. Richard Kelly, Executive Editor of Chemical Society Reviews, to contribute a review article entitled “Small-molecule photoacoustic probes for in vivo imaging” for the 2025 Chemical Society Reviews Pioneering Investigators Collection.

The Pioneering Investigators Collection highlights the work of international researchers who have established independent careers and made significant contributions to their fields. In recent years, our group has achieved a series of important advances in the development of small-molecule photoacoustic probes and bioimaging materials. This invitation reflects the strong international recognition of our research achievements.

In this review, we discuss the physical principles of photoacoustic (PA) imaging and the design strategies of small-molecule PA probes, highlight the contributions of the LumiMat Lab, and summarize related advances worldwide. We also analyze current challenges and offer perspectives on future directions.

We warmly invite you to read our article!
